Well today is supposed to be the hottest day of 2024. It certainly seems likely. When I left the house to go to the Botanical Gardens at 7:30 AM, it was already 79 degrees. When I arrived at the Gardens at 8:15, it was 84. When I left around 10:30, it had already gotten up to 92 degrees. The heat inspired me to write one of my silly little poems.

AUGUST

The brutal Texas sun attacks me, mocking me as I age.

It shouts, "Stop old man! Go home. This is not the time for you to hike the trails."

God, himself, gazes down at me and smiles.

He sends magnificent breezes to cool me in a shady grove.

I take off my hat and wipe the sweat from my brow.

Refreshed, I saunter back into the sunshine, ready for more.
