Bird Walk??? 05-10-2024
I got up at 3:45 AM to get Josh and Cat to the airport. I did some Master Naturalist work on my computer and realized that I was really tired. I almost blew of going to this event. I am glad I did not. Even though I didn't get one good bird photo, I had a great time with the other people, and several other things called out to me saying, "Take my picture!" Besides, the leader of this walk was Patsy Inglet. It was she and her hubby Tom that gave me an appreciation for birding back in 2017 during my Master Naturalist training.
I just couldn't sit there waiting for the walk to start. I wondered off to see what I could find. This is Western Lettuce. It is an invasive weed, but isn't it gorgeous? |
I found a tiny little bit of my favorite Alamo Vine growing today. I thought all three of my favorites died out this winter. The other two were nowhere to be found today. |
I loved this touch of color on the tips of these elm branches. |
I love stuff like this. I have some in my Wild Zone at home. It is Pigeon Berry. The beautiful red berries will come later. |
This Checkered White butterfly is on beggar's lice! |
This ball of puffy fluff is the seed mechanism of Bastard Cabbage. |
Just before returning to the group, I took this awful photo of a Kingbird. |
When I got back, folks were clustered in a circle looking at the Kingbird. |
That's Patsy Inglet in the center. Tom had an appointment. |
Pam Ball, second from right, is telling everyone about the Sanctuary. |
Well, the Kingbird came closer, so I took another awful picture. |
We saw this Mourning Dove at the start of the walk. My photo is so bad it looks pink! |
We saw a hawk fly across the soccer field and land at the other end of it. This was the only shot I got. My hands were too shaky to zoom in. That happens when I mow the lawn, which I did yesterday. |
I don't know what this is. Evidently, neither does iNat. It just caught my eye. |
This beauty is Tievine, a member of the morning glory family. |
We saw several Yellow Warblers. Here's my only photo. This was not my day for bird shots! |
Couldn't get an ID on this mushroom. Let's call it "glob of marshmallow cream". I wanted to taste it! (kidding!) |
Here's a horrible photo of a Phoebe. |
The Kingbird turned his back to me just as I clicked. |
Here you have a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and a Brown-headed Cowbird. |
These strange growths almost looked like flowers. |
Check out this mushroom. I couldn't agree to any of iNaturalist's suggestions. But, it sure was pretty. Do you see the bug photo bombing? |
That's a Texas Ironclad Beetle. |
This is a better shot of the mushroom. |
This is a better, but still crappy, photo of a Kingbird. |
Okay... This one is almost acceptable. |
Can't ID it, but it's pretty. |
Pretty sure that is a Standing Cypress, AKA Texas Plume. |
This is a Reakirt's Blue butterfly. It is about the size of my index finger nail. |
Apache Plume |
Queen butterfly |
Pigeon Berry again |
Texas Nightshade |
