Garden Day 05-29-2024

Finally got back to the Botanical Garden after skipping for last week's camping trip. It always amazes me how everything is the same, but, oh so different at the same time. I love walking down a path observing the changes.
This was a totally white eggplant. I asked the lady who was harvesting them if it would turn purple, and she said this variety is always white. They really did look like eggs!
These peppers are so pretty. I wouldn't mind having them in our landscaping.
It was really hard to keep myself from plucking one of these! This patch was loaded with them. When the berries run their course, they will plant something entirely different in this area.
Can we all just say, "YUM"? There were about twenty delicious looking butternut squash on the vines. I chose this one for the blossom next to it.
I couldn't find a sign. I think this is some kind of pea or bean blossom.
This is a gray Hairstreak butterfly. They are about the size of a dime.
Rachel and I couldn't decide which photo I should use. I like this one because the butterfly is to the left of the frame.
This is an artichoke plant. They are hard to see, but the middle one is covered with bugs.
Now, you can see them a lot better.
These look tasty.
These button bushes are the best for attracting little butterflies like this Sulphur.

This is a native basket flower. They smell wonderful.
They attract a plethora of pollinators.

You can see the basket formation in the one on the left.

Just as I entered the bird blind I heard a hawk screeching near by. There were no birds to be seen. Then this guy flew in and perched in the tree.
It is a Cooper's Hawk. They have amazing maneuvering skills. I see them in my backyard chasing birds on occasion.

I tried to get this buckeye with its wings open. It would not cooperate.

There is a whole patch of Pearl milkweed. The blossoms are all tinier than any I have seen.

This is the same pomegranate plant I've taken pictures of every week since I first started going.

Purple Martin

I only saw one robin during this visit, but boy did he like to pose!

This is a dried up branch of flowers. I don't know what kind, but they are beautiful like this.
