Y'all remember how my little Mexican Buckeye tree was brutally murdered when the dead tree was cut down in the Wildzone? Its trunk was broken in half, leaving about an 8 inch twig standing in the ruins. Well, to my surprise, it has sprouted an entirely new canopy. Nature never stops amazing me.
Rachel said she had trimmed the broken trunk thinking it might come back. I'm glad she was looking after it. I just thought it was a gonner. |
That's the new brush pile in the Wildzone with the largest piece of the dead tree. Rachel cleared some of the damaged plants around the spot where it came down. You can see in a shot farther down that there are still plenty of little trees for the birds to hide in. I really miss looking at the birds on the branches of the dead tree. |
My Lindheimer's senna is in bloom. This was one of my first native plants - gifted to me by my AAMN Class 41 classmate Vince Amejo. |
Jared's dill plants are blooming. They don't look very healthy. I think they got too much water. He is hoping they go to seed before they die, so he can harvest the seeds. |
If you remember from last year, a volunteer plant grew in Jared's herb garden last year. We thought it might be a pepper plant of some kind, so we let it grow. It turned out to be a chiltepin (chile tepin), the official state native pepper. There is another very similar variety, the chile pequin, but it has pointy peppers instead of the round ones on this plant. It survived the freezes during the winter and is now a small tree! I may try to transplant it to the Wildzone. |
This is the American Beauty Berry plant. We planted it new this spring. |
This rose bush only grows one color. I am always amazed at how closely they grow. You could actually cut a rose bouquet with one snip. |
I know I take a lot of pictures of the Pride of Barbados. I can't help myself. They are so beautiful. |
I want to have a print made of this on a bolt of fabric for an awesome Hawaiian shirt! |
These are the neighbor's white crepe myrtles. She has two trees. The blossoms fall like snow in my yard. It is beautiful. |
I was worried that Miss Olive would get a sunburn on her right ear. I finally walked over there and flipped it, but she wouldn't stay for more pictures. |
Okay... I don't give a rat's behind what others think. When Miss Olive realized I was looking at her, she smiled. Compare this photo to the one behind it. |
This is one of the mallow plants growing wild in the Wildzone. I did not plant them. |
These beautiful berries are on the neighbor's Brasil plant. It is a wild Texas native also called Condalia. I have some in my Wildzone, but have not seen berries on them. I will have to look. The berries will eventually turn almost black. They are edible and supposed to be very tasty. I will let you know. |
